Habitat for Humanity: Building Kauai Home ... - Kauai Real Estate

Diane Treskon of Sleeping Giant Sotheby?s Int?l Realty, lends a helping hand.

Real estate professionals all over Kaua?i gave back to our community this month as the Kaua?i Board of Realtors teamed up with the Kaua?i Habitat for Humanity for a ?Build-a-thon? and assisted with building three homes in Anahola.

Kaua?i Habitat for Humanity was founded after hurricane ?Iniki struck Kaua?i in 1992. Since then, this nonprofit organization has done a lot for our community, such as completing over 100 homes around the island for Kaua?i residents. Kaua?i Habitat for Humanity continues to provide numerous services and programs to help keep older Kaua?i homes safe to live in such as the Repair and Renovation Program as well as other special grant funded programs.

The Repair and Renovation Program allows families, with qualifying income of 30-80% HUD median income, to receive help in renovating or have repairs done to their existing home. Their goal is to make homes safe and livable as well as to prevent future deterioration of the house. Replacing rotten wood, installing a new roof, replacing worn out plumbing and rewiring electrical are some examples of repairs that have been done through this program. Kaua?i Habitat for Humanity takes each individual family into consideration when it comes to repayment of the loan needed that includes things such as the materials, sub contractors and permits if needed.

Recently, the Kaua?i Habitat for Humanity received funds from the County of Kauai?s Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) to restore homes within the Koloa and Waimea areas. The guidelines are very similar to the Repair and Renovation Program with a focus on, however not limited to, electrical and plumbing needs.? This program is limited to 8 homes so if you are in need or if you know someone that is in need of repairs and or renovations to their home, it is definitely a program to look into.

I would like to give a round of applause to all of the Kaua?i Habitat for Humanity staff, and all of the volunteers that have helped throughout the years. Thank You for all you have done for the community.
