The International Sociology of Sport Associationaims to promote international cooperation in the field of sociology of sport. The sociology of sport, while grounded in sociology, has always been much more of a social science of sport. In addition to sociology, work in the field encompasses history, political science, human geography, anthropology, social psychology and economics. Also, the new off-shoots of sociology such as, cultural studies, media studies, and gender studies, are well represented in the field.

The International Sociology of Sport Association and SAGE publish International Review for the Sociology of Sport, a fully peer reviewed academic and international journal whose purpose is to disseminate research and scholarship on sport throughout the international academic community. The journal publishes research articles of varying lengths, from standard length research papers to shorter reports and commentary, as well as book and media reviews. The journal is edited by Lawrence Wenner, Loyola Marymount University, USA, supported by David Marple, also Loyola Marymount University, USA. The Book and Media Reviews section is edited by Louise Mansfield Brunel University, UK. Lawrence is supported by an international team of corresponding editors and editorial board.
