Obama: After the White House beer, POTUS pizza

President Barack Obama campaigns at CU Boulder (Olivier Knox)

BOULDER, Colo. ? Courting young voters who are critical to his hopes for a second term, President Barack Obama urged a crowd of 13,000 at University of Colorado Boulder to eat a pizza named after him at a popular local spot.

"I've been told that The Sink renamed one of their pizzas after me," Obama told the sea of supporters. "I'm deeply moved by this."

"So the next time you go there, just ask for the POTUS. It's got pepperoni, sausage, green peppers, black olives, and onion. We put the olives and the onion on there for Michelle -- so you can say that you had some vegetables on your pizza," he said, referring to first lady Michelle Obama's push for healthy eating.

Obama visited the restaurant in April 2012 ? and a photo gallery of his visit is visible here.

Why the presidential banter? Obama has been working to energize young voters, especially in pivotal battleground states. Young voters powered his historic 2008 run for the White House ? but they have struggled since the global financial meltdown of 2007-2008. Republicans led by Mitt Romney have hammered the president with statistics showing younger Americans struggling to find jobs. Obama's pizza push came a day after the White House made public its beer recipes.
